Mohan Spintex India Limited (MSIL) is an Indian vertically integrated textile manufacturer headquartered in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Founded in 2005 by V. Sudhakar Chowdary, the company spins yarn, weaves and processes fabric, and makes finished home textiles such as sheet sets, duvet covers and quilts, all within its own facilities.[6][2]
MSIL began commercial production in October 2006 with 14,400 spindles at Unit 1 in Vattigudipadu, and has since expanded to 1,21,488 spindles, 6,272 rotors, 4,800 TFO drums and 324 air-jet looms across several units in Krishna district.[2][3] Trade press describes it as the second-largest textile company in Andhra Pradesh.[2]
The company supplies domestic manufacturers including Welspun, Himatsingka, Indo Count and Mafatlal, exports to more than 22 countries, and sells home textiles in India under its own brand, Astara.[3][2] Its chairman is Vallabhaneni Mohan Rao.[7]
History
The company was founded by V. Sudhakar Chowdary, who had previously run his family's fertiliser distribution business; he dates its start to 7 April 2005.[8] It was incorporated on 11 May 2005 as a public limited company registered in Vijayawada.[1] Commercial production began in October 2006 at Unit 1 in Vattigudipadu, then a single spinning mill with 14,400 spindles.[2]
The company expanded in stages. Foundation stones were laid for a second phase at Unit 1 in 2007,[9] for Unit 2 in 2009,[10] and for Unit 3 in 2013;[11] Unit 2 was inaugurated in 2012.[12] A unit at Mallavalli was inaugurated in 2019.[13] By 2017 it had more than 125,000 spindles and 125 air-jet looms, about 2,800 employees and exports of close to half its output.[8][14] Between 2018 and 2020 the company invested ₹400 crore in expansion.[2]
Over the same period MSIL moved beyond yarn into weaving, fabric processing and finished home textiles, completing its integration from fibre to finished product.[6]

MSIL runs four production stages in sequence, each able to sell its output externally as well as supply the next stage.[6]

Spinning
The spinning operation, where MSIL began, produces compact, combed, carded, blended, open-end and plied yarns. In 2022 its ring spindles were reported to be entirely compact spinning.[2]
Weaving
Weaving uses 324 Picanol air-jet looms to produce greige fabric in constructions including percale, sateen, twill, dobby and jacquard.[2]
Processing
Fabric is bleached, dyed, printed and finished on continuous ranges with a capacity of about 1,00,000 metres per day. Process water is treated in a zero liquid discharge–oriented plant.[5]
Home textiles
The make-up operation cuts, stitches and packs sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers and quilts, and also offers cut, make and trim as a service.[3]
Products and brands
MSIL's products span 100% cotton and blended yarns, greige and finished fabric, and finished home textiles with thread counts of up to 1,400.[2] The company launched the Astara brand for the Indian market and opened a retail outlet in Vijayawada.[2][15]
Markets
In the 2021–22 financial year about 80% of sales were domestic and 20% were exports, to more than 22 countries including the United States, Canada, European countries, Australia, Bangladesh and China.[2]
Certifications
The company holds certifications covering quality, environmental and occupational safety management (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001); organic, recycled and sustainable fibre content (GOTS, GRS, BCI); product safety (OEKO-TEX Standard 100, MADE IN GREEN); and social compliance (WRAP, Sedex/SMETA).[5][2]
Sustainability
MSIL generates electricity from 10.8 MW of rooftop solar panels and has replaced coal with rice husk in steam generation, which the company says avoids a combined 67,740 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. Its effluent plant recovers 98% of process water, and it maintains 20 million litres of rainwater harvesting capacity.[5] A solar power project at Unit 2 was inaugurated in 2022.[16]
Corporate social responsibility
The company's community work has included books for government schools (2012), sewing machine distribution for women (2015), a drinking-water RO plant (2018), health camps (2018) and the opening of Mohan's Sri Vijnana Vihara School in 2025.[17]

The founder's children, V. Suhruth Chowdary and Keyura, are directors and represent the company's next generation of leadership.[5]
Workforce
The company employed about 2,800 people in 2017 and more than 5,500 by 2026; in 2022, 45% of its workforce were women.[8][2][5] Employee welfare measures include free transport for staff living within about 30 km of the units and a subsidised canteen.[8]

The Textile Magazine ran a cover story on the company in February 2017, calling it "India's fastest growing textile manufacturer", and profiled it again in its Heimtextil 2026 special edition.[8][5]
Headquarters
The corporate office is at Eluru Road, Gunadala, Vijayawada; the registered office is at Puliparti Vari Street, Vijayawada.[3][1] A foundation ceremony (bhoomi puja) for a new corporate office was held in 2026.[18]
