Mohan Rao has about four decades of experience in the cotton and textile business.<ref name="infomerics2024" /> Before Mohan Spintex was founded, the family's businesses included fertiliser distribution, run by his son, and tobacco cultivation, which Sudhakar Chowdary has said was looked after by his father.<ref name="tm2017" />

Mohan Spintex India Limited was incorporated in May 2005 and promoted by Mohan Rao together with his son, who became its Managing Director.<ref name="infomerics2024" /> Rating agencies have cited the promoters' experience and track record as a strength of the company.<ref name="care2023" /><ref name="infomerics2024" /> Mohan Rao serves as Chairman, and his grandson V.
